Set up Fingerprint Unlock

Use your fingerprint to unlock your Pixel phone or verify it’s you when you sign in to apps or approve a purchase.

  1. Open the Settings app .
  2. Tap Security & privacy.

Tap Device unlock.

Important: If you don’t already have a screen lock set up, you’ll be asked to add a backup PIN, pattern, or password.

Tap Fingerprint Unlock.

  1. Review how Fingerprint Unlock works.
  2. Scroll down.
  3. Tap I agree.

On the next screen, you’ll be prompted to set up your fingerprint. Tap Start.

Touch and hold your finger on the sensor until the sensor lights up and you feel a vibration from your device.

Tip: If you encounter an issue when you scan your fingerprint, it could be due to bright, outdoor sunlight or a thick screen protector.

  1. Lift your finger
  2. Touch and hold your finger on the sensor each time the fingerprint icon moves.
  3. Change the position of your finger slightly each time. Make sure to place the sides of your finger on the sensor when prompted.

Tip: If your fingers are excessively dry, for best results, moisturize before you scan.

After your fingerprint is added, tap Done.

Tip: To use your other hands or fingers to easily unlock your screen, you can also add additional fingerprints.
