Search for nearby places & explore the area

You can search for areas of interest, things to do, or notable locations in Google Maps. Find places like nearby museums, new restaurants, and popular bars and clubs. You can also find ratings and descriptions of these places in Maps.

Important:

  • Google Maps contains content from different sources. Your Maps results may include information from our partners, our users, or the public web. Google may remove content if we learn that it violates our content policies or if it violates applicable laws.
  • Local search results in Maps are based primarily on relevance, distance, and prominence.These factors are combined to help find the best match for your search. For example, Google algorithms might decide that a business that's farther away from you is more likely to have what you're looking for than a business that's closer. Therefore, it will rank higher in local results.
  • Results in Google Maps are not influenced by payment from other companies. Paid content in Google Maps is labeled.

Browse local places of interest

Tip: This feature isn’t available everywhere.

You can search for nearby businesses and places, like popular bars, gas stations, and ATMs. You can also find hours of operation, business phone numbers, ratings, and other information.

To search categories near you:
  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Maps app Google Maps.
  2. Under the search bar, tap a suggestion, such as Restaurants, Coffee, or Hotels.

  1. To browse other options, scroll through suggestions. For additional categories, tap More .

Manage information shared with Google

Information about your places comes from your Location History. Your Location History lets Google show you useful information and make recommendations. Location history is based on where you’ve been with your devices. Your info is only shared if you've turned on Location History and signed in with your Google Account. Only you can find these recommendations.

Explore the latest in your area

To find the latest in your area from locals, nearby businesses, and more:

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Maps app Google Maps.
  2. At the bottom, tap Explore Explore.

Filter events based on your interest

You can filter events to specific types. To filter events:

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Maps app Google Maps.
  2. At the bottom, tap Explore.
  3. Under "Upcoming events," tap See more events.
  4. Under “Discover more events,” tap the desired event.
