Use the Gemini web app

You can use the Gemini web app, gemini.google.com, to supercharge your ideas. With a little help from the Gemini web app, you can do things like:

  • Brainstorm ideas, develop a plan, or find different ways to get things done
  • Get a quick, easy to understand summary of more complex topics
  • Create first drafts of outlines, emails, blog posts, poems, and much more

What you need

You can use some features in the Gemini web app without signing in. To use additional features or save your Gemini Apps activity, you’ll need to sign in with a Google Account.

To sign in to the Gemini web app at gemini.google.com, you need one of the following:

  • A personal Google Account
  • A work Google Account with a qualifying Workspace edition. You must also be 18 or over.
  • A school Google Account. You must also be 13 (or the applicable age in your country) or over and the service must be enabled by your institution's administrator.
  • A supported browser: Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Opera, or Edgium.

Before you use Gemini Apps

Gemini Apps can make mistakes. When using Gemini Apps, double-check responses and don’t rely on responses from Gemini Apps for professional advice.

Start a conversation in chat

  1. On your computer, go to gemini.google.com.
  2. In the text box at the bottom, enter your question or prompt.
  3. Optionally, to add a file or image to your prompt, click Add files 
    • Follow the on screen instructions to add a file or image.
  4. Click Submit .

Tip:

  • To start a new chat, at the top left, click New chat . If the option isn’t there, first click Menu . Learn how to find and manage your recent chats.
  • You can use some features in the Gemini web app without signing in. To use additional features or save your Gemini Apps activity, you’ll need to sign in with a Google Account.

Choose the model you want to use

You can choose the model that you want to use for a chat.

Important: To switch between models in Gemini Apps, you must be signed in. Learn how to sign in to Gemini Apps.

How to switch between Gemini models

Important: A chat can only use one model. If you switch between models in an existing chat, it automatically starts a new chat

To switch between models:

  1. Go to gemini.google.com.
  2. At the top under the Gemini logo, click the model name.
  3. Select what model you want to use for the chat.
Tip: You can check what model a chat uses at the top.

There are several Gemini models available in the Gemini Apps drop down.

  • 2.5 Flash
  • 2.5 Pro (Preview)

Tip: Experimental models allow you to try out the newest Gemini models. Share feedback to help us improve models over time.

  • Outline my blog post about summer mocktail recipes.
  • Debug this error message: "FileNotFoundError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'data.csv'"
  • I want to learn how to code in Python. How should I start? Create a learning plan for me, and recommend some videos.
  • I love video games and drawing. What are some jobs that I might like when I grow up?
  • Show my monthly expenses in a pie chart: Rent 1200, Groceries 300, Gas 60, Electricity 80, and Internet 50.

Edit prompts, check responses, access resources, & do more

Important: To use these features, you must be signed in to Gemini Apps. Learn how to sign in to Gemini Apps.

Edit your prompt

If you want to revise your prompt, you can edit it, and the Gemini web app will regenerate the response.

  1. To the right of your prompt, click Edit text .
  2. Edit your prompt.
  3. Click Update.

Check other responses to your prompt

Important: This feature isn't available for responses that Gemini generates using apps.

For some prompts, you can review other drafts that the Gemini web app creates. This option is only available for the latest response.

  1. Above the response, click View other drafts or Show drafts.
  2. Click that draft you want to review.
 

Do more with responses

  • To copy code from a response: Below the block of code, click Copy .
  • To generate a chart based on data in a Gemini web app response, like a table: In a follow-up question, ask the Gemini web app to create a chart with that information.

Gemini Apps & your location

Gemini Apps may use your location to provide more relevant responses to your prompts. Gemini Apps will use your general location or, if you allow it, your device's precise location. Learn how to manage your location

Check or update the location the Gemini web app uses for you

In the Gemini web app, your location is shown at the bottom of the menu.

You can select "Update location" to allow the Gemini web app to use your device’s precise location.
