Learn about the supported phone models

Only unlocked devices work with Google Fi. If you purchase your phone through Google Fi or the Google Store, your device is unlocked.

If you’re not sure if your phone is unlocked, contact your current carrier or the place where you purchased your phone. Make sure you don't owe any payments on your device. Your carrier can also have other requirements to unlock your device.

Your device must meet the requirements:

  • Android phone or tablet: Run Android 7.0 and up, have LTE bands 2 and 4, and support VoLTE.
  • iPhone and iPad: Run iOS 13 and up since Google Fi only supports eSIM on iPhone 14 and 15.

You can have the full Google Fi experience from phones designed for Google Fi that Google Store and Google Fi sell. Other phones listed as follows are compatible with Google Fi.

Identify the type of SIM card your device uses

To determine the SIM card size your device needs, most manufacturers list the size for each device on their website. For example, if your device uses a micro SIM, you must buy a nano SIM to micro SIM adapter. If your device uses a nano SIM, you don’t need an adapter.

Learn about 5G models

Mobile network technology has reached a new generation with 5G, which offers devices a faster and more stable connection with less lag. A 5G-compatible phone can download a high-resolution, full-length movie in minutes and stream 4K videos with fewer interruptions.

The Google Fi 5G network runs on T-Mobile’s nationwide 5G network. To get more details on 5G coverage areas, enter an address or ZIP code in the Google Fi coverage map.

Access to 5G service isn’t available everywhere. The availability of 5G service, as well as its speed and performance depends on factors that include:

  • Carrier network capabilities
  • Device configuration
  • Device capabilities
  • Network traffic
  • Location
  • Signal strength
  • Signal blockage
Actual results may vary. For info on Google Fi speeds, go to the Google Fi mobile broadband consumer disclosure.
