Do I need a phone to use my Samsung Galaxy Watch5?

Yes, you must own a compatible phone with Android 8.0 or higher and at least 1.5 GB RAM to pair your Samsung Watch5.

On your phone, go to the Google Play Store app Google Play and install the Galaxy Wearable app. You can use this app to manage watch faces, settings, notifications, and preferences from your phone.

How do I install other apps on the Samsung Galaxy Watch5?

On the Galaxy Watch5, install apps through the Play Store.

  • The Galaxy Watch5 has Google software installed. When you install an app from the regular Play Store on your phone, the app will automatically install on your watch.

Activate your watch with Google Fi

Before you begin, make sure that:

  1. Bluetooth is on for both devices.
  2. You choose your Google Fi account during pairing.

To activate with Google Fi:

  1. On your phone, download the Galaxy Wearable app from the Google Play Store.
  2. To set up your watch, follow the on-screen instructions.
  3. When you get to the screen to set up mobile service, select the related Google Fi account.
  4. Select Set up or buy a plan.
Can I make and receive phone calls on the Samsung Galaxy Watch5?

Yes. When you activate your Watch5 on an active Google Fi account and plan, you can make and receive calls without your phone.

You can also:

  • Make and receive calls through your phone when your watch and phone are synced. 
  • Make and receive calls with the Samsung Watch5 Wi-Fi when your phone is nearby.
  • Use the Watch5’s built-in speaker and mic, or pair your watch with Bluetooth-enabled headphones, to talk and hear on phone calls.
Is the Samsung Galaxy Watch5 water resistant?

You can turn on Water lock mode to make your Samsung Galaxy Watch5 water-resistant. Water lock mode keeps you from accidentally triggering your watch in water. When you turn off Water lock mode, it ejects water from your watch.

To turn on Water lock mode:

  1. On the Home screen, swipe up.
  2. Scroll to select the Settings icon.
  3. Scroll to select Advanced features.
  4. Select Water lock.
  5. Turn on Water lock.

To turn off Water lock mode:

  1. Press the Home key (the top right button on the outside bevel) until a sound plays.
  2. The Samsung Galaxy Watch5 will automatically start to eject water.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions.
Does the Samsung Galaxy Watch5 come with bands in the box?
Yes. The Watch5 works with various bands. However, if you buy through Google Fi, Google Fi does not offer any band customization.
Does the Samsung Galaxy Watch5 have a warranty?

Yes. If you bought the Watch5 through Google Fi, Google will provide a similar warranty to what they offer for other Samsung devices.

If you didn’t buy the Watch5 through Google Fi, any warranty will have to be covered from the manufacturer or place of purchase.

How does the Samsung Galaxy Watch5 work with my Google Fi pricing plan?

After April 19, 2023, Google Fi will add full connectivity (data, calls, and texts) for compatible watches to all pricing plans: Flex, Unlimited Plus, and Simply Unlimited. Previously, users couldn’t buy a watch from Google Fi or use connectivity services unless connected with Bluetooth. However, existing Simply Unlimited users won’t have wearable connectivity turned on until after their first billing cycle following April 19, 2023.

Google Fi users get one wearable per account, separate from data-only SIMs.

Tip: Flexible Plan users pay for data by usage. The Watch5 uses data to call, text, and use apps and the internet, which could affect the amount of data that Flexible Plan users will pay for.

Is Device Protection offered?
Yes, Device Protection (DP) coverage is available. However, walk-in repair will not be offered.
Is international service offered on the Samsung Galaxy Watch5 with Google Fi?
Not at this time.
Can I activate a Samsung Galaxy Watch5 on Google Fi if I bought it somewhere else?
Yes.
Does the Samsung Galaxy Watch5 need its own phone number?
No, the Samsung Galaxy Watch5 doesn’t need its own line. After you pair the watch with your phone and activate it, the watch will share the same mobile number as your phone.
Does Samsung Galaxy Watch5 work on 5G networks?
Not at this time. Watch5 uses 4G LTE, which is the current standard for smartwatches.
