Earlier this year, GIC partnered food rescue group Fridge Restock Community (FRC) to learn more about food waste and sustainability in Singapore. Over 4 food rescue sessions, 33 GIC volunteers helped to rescue 16,500kg of fresh fruits and vegetables, which were then distributed to community fridges and distribution points nationwide. "Volunteering with FRC was an eye-opening and humbling experience. Transporting heavy loads of produce was hard work, but seeing the scale of food rescued made it all worthwhile," shared Mery Suciana, Lead Project Manager, Investment Services, Technology Group. "I'm glad we were able to give back to the community, and work with FRC to reduce food wastage in Singapore." Caroline, a lead volunteer at FRC, added, "We are truly thankful to each and every GIC volunteer who joined us at our food rescues. With their participation, we were able to increase awareness around food waste and rescue more food which can be channeled to the communities." In the midst of a challenging investing environment, institutional investors may look to diversify their traditional 60/40 portfolio by investing in hedge funds. In a new research paper, GIC and J.P. Morgan Asset Management present a framework for such a strategy, integrating both top-down and bottom-up perspectives in line with a total portfolio approach (TPA). As opposed to classifying hedge funds by strategy, the framework proposes an alternative method —– based on the roles hedge funds play in investor portfolios. It divides hedge funds into four sub-groups with unique risk/return profiles – Loss Mitigation, Equity Diversifier, Equity Complement, and Equity Substitute – and uses that to design allocation ranges and structural guidelines for the programme strategy. The paper was co-authored by Grace Qiu, Senior Vice President, Economics & Investment Strategy; Kenneth Ho, Portfolio Manager, External Managers Department; Zheng Jie Sung, Associate, Economics & Investment Strategy; and our counterparts at J.P. Morgan Asset Management. Read the full paper on #GICThinkSpace: https://lnkd.in/gpZ7jS5d #GIC #GICSG #Singapore #finance #investing #longterm #hedgefund

GIC celebrated its 43rd Anniversary last month, a global event that reaffirmed our commitment to the PRIME values – Prudence, Respect, Integrity, Merit, and Excellence. GICians worldwide celebrated this milestone by wearing our corporate colours: blue and white. As part of our celebrations, we hosted a lunchtime fireside chat that provided insights into GIC's heritage and the contributions of our founding Managing Director, Dr Yong Pung How. This session was led by Justice Andrew Phang, author of Dr Yong's biography, and moderated by our General Counsel Charles Lim. We also held a panel discussion featuring our CEO Chow Kiat Lim, GIC Investment Board member Woon Tracey, and Korn Ferry's APAC Regional Practice Leader Graham Poston. The discussion, moderated by our COO Sam Kim, highlighted the importance of our PRIME values and strong governance in driving business success.
