A downloadable game

Tiny shepherd is my first game made for the playdate with pulp.

It's a small cozy farming game where you can grow flowers, gather resources and of course buy animals. I made this for fun while waiting for my playdate to arrive and I hope you like the game.

CONTROLS

B: Inventory

A: Sow seeds or pet animals

Crank: Eat berries to regain stamina

Also, if you want to make your own game with pulp, you can download the json file and play around with the project.

It includes all the tiles, sounds and music and the source code for this game.

You can use and modify it in any way you like, I hope you have fun with it and find it useful.

I'm currently recreating this game using the playdate sdk, which allows for more flexibility and more detailed art work! I post updates of what I'm working on on the playdate squad discord server and here on itch.io!

Let me know what you think of the project and if you would be interested to play a farming game on the playdate! 💛

Here is a little sneak peek of what I have made so far:

I actually already made some chickens but didn’t have the time to implement them yet!

Bock!

This is great!  You owe it to yourself to add a bit more :) I bet you'd get a great result in terms of interest.    I like the list of additions in the comment below. The "Buy All" being chief amongst them, I was cursing you while flogging 90 Wood to get funds for the new puppy :)

I can see how the NPC characters be fleshed out with a little narrative etc.  (The puppy woman was pretty quiet after I gave her all that gold...)

Apart from anything else, I did find myself sinking  a solid 45 mins into it - didn't want to put it down until the puppy and some sheep were mine to pet!

Thank you for the kind words, I’m really happy you played the game and enjoyed it! And thank you for the feedback too, you make some very good points there! I’m definitely planning to expand on the idea, but I’m not sure how much I can do with the tool I’m using at the moment, so I want to at least try out what I can do with the sdk.

What an absolutely lovely little cozy game! I've been dying for something like this on Playdate. Thanks for making it. A great low-effort thing to play while listening to a podcast. I hope you continue to expand on it, would be amazing!

Thank you very much, I’m happy you like it! I know that there is not so much content right now, but I would like to keep working on it. I’m not sure if I will keep making it with pulp or try making it using the sdk once I receive my playdate. If you have suggestions or ideas for the game they would be most appreciated!

Awesome to hear! A few ideas, just spitballing off the top of my head:
-option to turn off music but keep sfx (you can see this upon pressing the home button)
-the "1x" vs. "all" option in the store, but for all items, not just flowers
-random chance that upon breaking a rock, some money appears (gold coin or similar)
-rare occurrence of an item-in-a-bottle appearing on the shore. maybe something to sell for large $
-different crops to grow, with different gestation periods and prices associated
-buying food for animals and making sure they're fed
-fishing in the pond, with different probabilities to catch different fish
-rare chance to get "golden berry" or similar while harvesting berries
-dungeon area with enemies / sword to upgrade :)
-start out with only a bed, and you buy furniture for your house over time
-hunger mechanic (there are consequences to sleeping while starving)
-upgrading tools, etc. takes significant resources (a few tweaks like this to make the game stretch for hours)
