How to choose the right team or freelancers to localize your game? Recruitment in localization can be tricky. There’s no quick answer, as everything depends on multiple factors – your game being the most important one.    Game publishers and gamedev producers correctly consider that by asking candidates about prior experience with a genre or being fans of a certain universe or topic. After all, passion for games is what keeps us engaged and motivated! However, when building a professional localization team there are more aspects to consider. If you’re hiring a junior translator, will there be anyone who can provide feedback and help polish game texts? If there are multiple people working in one language pair, is there anyone to take care of terminology consistency? Are there the right tools being used to make the quality better? When you want to build a localization team, whether a pool of freelancers or a team for your game, there are many questions to ask yourself. What do you think is the most crucial when recruiting for game localization projects? #gamepublishing #gamedevelopment #gamelocalization

Game localization teams should be included in the credits – we always try to provide the list of people who worked on the gaming projects for crediting. One of many reasons is to empower and provide visibility for the team members but also to be transparent with our clients and show that the team consists of skilled professionals. What do you think about crediting game localization teams? Did you know that International Game Developers Association (IGDA®) prepared Game Crediting Standards?

In a recent article, our Localization Lead Tomasz Kaliszewski dives into how we build localization teams that get us excellent client feedback. Tomek points out 4 core categories that affect the quality of work within the team: 1) Recruitment – a standard industry procedure with, in our case, an extra twist specific to a project. That helps us find people that fit the project best – with their skills, passion for a genre/theme, and experience in game localization. 2) Onboarding – with different faces of onboarding in the game localization industry, we put emphasis on the human touch and helping our teams from day one to smoothly get into translation work and focus on what they excel at. 3) Team dynamic – we believe that building and managing localization teams is important for projects quality and consistency. It's more than just looking for availability within the pool of freelancers. 4) Daily workflow – smartly designed workflow not only makes the work more effective, it also considers multiple aspects of localization challenges that we're prepare to handle. -- Do you want to know how we could help you with your game localizations? Whether you're a game publisher, or game developer – we'll find a good solution for you. #gamepublishing #gamelocalization #gamedevelopment #gamedev #xl8 #l10n

Gamedev teams working on a tight budget need to approach localization strategically. This way, you can focus on aspects that are important to your game and your studio. Sometimes, it’ll be about localizing your game into smaller batches of languages on the release, and sometimes, it'll be about choosing less popular languages based on your community engagement data. When you talk with experienced gamedev studios, you’ll notice that localization is included in their games by default—that’s not a coincidence. You could think that English is “international enough” language—but experience and market research do not show that. There’s a significant number of people around the world who won’t buy and play your game if it’s not localized into additional languages – and by not localizing, you’re missing part of the markets where your game could be a hit. Local versions of your game benefit not only players who will be able to play your game and enjoy it the same way players in the game’s original language do, but also they’ll be a huge part of your game success worldwide, increasing your game’s sales. --- We’re an English to Polish game localization team vastly experienced in most game genres and all gaming platforms. Game localization as personalized services? Sure! Games are so varied that there’s no one-fits-all solution for localization. Publishers and huge studios may need different localization strategies than indie game developers. The scope of the projects matters, too. The number one rule in game localization is, or should be, understanding games – on all levels of the localization process, from quotes and project preparation through working on the files to localization testing and deliveries. Of course, it doesn’t mean that all localization processes are built from scratch each time – procedures play an essential part in maintaining quality work. This is why the right, adjusted to the game, methods, and procedures together with a personalized approach can make a difference. And we're all about creating localizations that are pleasant to play with. --- Looking for a game localization partner? Did you know that you, as a game developer, need to make decisions related to game localization? Ha, that’s interesting, right? Making a decision for languages you don’t even know! Even when you're working with a publisher! Localization teams, during their work, use all kinds of materials about your game to understand it and to make translation decisions. Sometimes, they will have additional questions regarding the context – or your strategy. It could be things like translating (or not!) certain aspects of the game (and titles!), ensuring the text fits the age restrictions category you aim for, matters of consoles compliance, or narrative elements that may not work well in certain regions. There are really multiple topics where teams will need your help and decisions. To make it smooth, various systems are used for communication – they can be simple or complex. It’ll depend on the scope of the game, your priorities, and the size of the localization teams. -------- Do you want to know more about what the game localization process may look like for your game? Send us a direct message or contact 🎮 Asia Mleczak 🔜 GDC 😊 We’ll be happy to show you how we take your game to the localization adventure to prepare localizations your players will like to play with. #gamedev #gamedevelopment #gamelocalization #translationservices
