EAU: Raising the level of urological care in Europe The EAU is a non-profit organisation which supports medical professionals working in the field of urology through many of its scientific, professional, educational and awareness-building initiatives. Since 1972, the EAU has been organising scientific events, and today, many of these events are amongst the world’s most innovative and prestigious meetings dedicated to urology. Since its foundation, the EAU has been committed to the development of urological community and today it represents more than 18,000 medical professionals working in Europe and beyond its borders.

Differentiation between NMIBC and MIBC is crucial for BC treatment. Magnetic resonance imaging has superior soft tissue contrast resolution compared with CT and can evaluate post-biopsy reaction as enhancement of the tumour occurs earlier than that of the normal bladder wall due to neovascularization. To date, the VI-RADS score has been validated by several research groups, showing good diagnostic performance in detecting MIBC. Also, a high diagnostic performance for the detection of muscle invasion of urothelial carcinoma subtypes was found. As he announced at EAU24, the 2024 Willy Gregoir Medal Winner Prof. Nicolas Mottet is currently undertaking a sailing expedition around the world. At the moment he finds himself in cold waters, sailing into the Arctic Circle. Thankfully he can look for guidance from the medal with the depiction of the EAU’s first Secretary General for guidance whenever needed!

📰 The Article of the Month for the Educational Platform UROLUTS features new results from the recent study “Effect of detrusor underactivity on surgical outcomes of holmium laser enucleation of the prostate”. Midterm results demonstrated that patients with BPH and DUA showed minimal differences in clinical outcomes after HoLEP compared to those without DUA.
