Antidote

At the top of Antidote this week, Self Esteem joins forces with South Africa’s Moonchild Sanelly for “Big Man”. Set to bone-rattling bass and skittering trap beats, it’s a celebration of relaxed, supportive and self-possessed guys. “Me and Moon wrote a song from the perspective of a good boyfriend,” Self Esteem tells Apple Music. “The ones that are just chill and secure so they just leave you to it. The ones that don’t want a medal for doing the bins. The ones that see that you’re working your tits off so they go and get yet another thing you’ve ordered and missed the delivery of from the Post Office. The ones that don’t take your success as a direct threat to their existence. To me this is real masculinity.” For Self Esteem, it marks another step towards unleashing her third album after wrapping up a five-and-a-half-month West End run starring in Cabaret in March. “I loved being in Cabaret with all my heart,” she says. “It was so wonderful to realise my childhood dream and be part of such a special team. Sally [her character] would defo be a Self Esteem fan so it all remained in my world mentally. Very much want to do more in the future but for now this record has to come out of me or I’ll explode.” This week, you can also hear essential new music from Fontaines D.C., The Japanese House, The Mysterines, YUNGBLUD and Kasabian. Like all the artists featured, Antidote is always evolving—so keep checking back, and if you hear something you like, add it to your library.
