Today’s Country

Just in time for Father’s Day, Luke Combs dropped his fifth studio album, the loosely conceptual Fathers & Sons. Announced just a week ago, the project is a collection of songs focusing on Combs’ relationships with both his sons and his own father, with an unsparing perspective that captures the highs and lows of parenthood. Standout track “Remember Him That Way” is a tender glimpse at watching a parent age, with Combs remembering when the “old man in a La-Z-Boy” was “10 feet tall and bulletproof.” It’s one of many striking songs on the record, which is undoubtedly Combs at his most vulnerable. This playlist tracks what’s happening from the heart of the country scene to its outer edges. Check back here early and often, and if you hear something you like, add it to your library.
