This playlist tracks what’s happening from the heart of the country scene to its outer edges. Find fan favourites you already love next to breakout stars and emerging voices. Topping the list this week is Parker McCollum with “Solid Country Gold”, a cut off the country star’s just-released new self-titled album. The tune is loose and gritty, eschewing country radio slickness in favour of a rawer sound true to McCollum’s Texas roots. Notably, the record marks a break from McCollum’s long-time producer Jon Randall, instead finding Music Row favourite Frank Liddell at the helm. McCollum credits Liddell with helping him expand his sound and explore new sonic territory. “Frank just had a way of getting me there,” McCollum tells Apple Music. “He would just sit there and he'd be like, ‘Hey, you're a great singer. You're a great guitar player. You're a great songwriter. Go in there and act like it.’ And he was dead serious.” Check back here early and often for updates, and if you hear something you like, add it to your library.
