Carrie Underwood has one of the biggest voices in country. Few can storm a chorus with such gusto—or tiptoe out with so delicate a vibrato. This combination of power and restraint helped her win the fourth season of American Idol, but she's revealed herself to be less diva than storyteller. On "Before He Cheats", a revenge tale involving a baseball bat, slashed tires and apocalyptic fiddle, she's both. "Something in the Water", meanwhile, tells the wholesome story of a Christian conversion with down-home banjo and operatic production. As usual, Carrie's voice comes out on top.
