Chapter 16

Chapter 16

“Chapter 16 relates back to where I come from, and my past made me who I am today,” Cian Francis William Wright—better known as Clavish—tells Apple Music. “I’ve lived in [North London] Stamford Hill all my life, and the postcode here is N16. So I’ve made 16 songs that reflect on my past and present, what’s real in my life, who I am and what I represent.” Across 16 tracks, the rapper’s second full-length offers a rare glimpse into the mind of the quote-shy MC who famously declared “No Interview” on 2023 debut Rap Game Awful. For the follow-up, Clavish hands out unhurried flows alongside a stellar supporting cast that includes Potter Payper, Aitch, Fredo and Kirky, as well as a third outing with Young Adz and Dirtbike LB (after 2023’s “Pakistan” and “Rocket Science” in 2022). “Growing up, I was a fan of DBE and I always knew we’d make good music, I wasn’t shocked when ‘Rocket Science’ reached the top 10 [in the UK Singles Chart]. I have to have that good judgement [feeling] in my gut before I do anything, and then my thoughts will turn into reality. Our chemistry was there from the first session.” For every step of the way, Clavish takes a cinematic snapshot of the road travelled. On “Vartry Road”, Clavish reminisces on where it all began, while “Last Night in Paris” offers thrilling balance on the journey thus far. “When I’m by myself, or life is life-ing, I tend to put my pain or my thoughts into my pen,” he says. “If I’m being honest this is where my best work comes out. Instead of venting to people, I can push it out with my wordplay.”
