Talk:Spam blacklist
- Proposed additions
- Please provide evidence of spamming on several wikis. Spam that only affects a single project should go to that project's local blacklist. Exceptions include malicious domains and URL redirector/shortener services. Please follow this format. Please check back after submitting your report, there could be questions regarding your request.
- Proposed removals
- Please check our list of requests which repeatedly get declined. Typically, we do not remove domains from the spam blacklist in response to site-owners' requests. Instead, we de-blacklist sites when trusted, high-volume editors request the use of blacklisted links because of their value in support of our projects. Please consider whether requesting whitelisting on a specific wiki for a specific use is more appropriate - that is very often the case.
- Other discussion
- Troubleshooting and problems - If there is an error in the blacklist (i.e. a regex error) which is causing problems, please raise the issue here.
- Discussion - Meta-discussion concerning the operation of the blacklist and related pages, and communication among the spam blacklist team.
- #wikimedia-external-linksconnect - Real-time IRC chat for co-ordination of activities related to maintenance of the blacklist.
- Whitelists
There is no global whitelist, so if you are seeking a whitelisting of a url at a wiki then please address such matters via use of the respectiveMediawiki talk:Spam-whitelist
page at that wiki, and you should consider the use of the template {{edit protected}} or its local equivalent to get attention to your edit.
Please sign your posts with ~~~~ after your comment. This leaves a signature and timestamp so conversations are easier to follow.
Completed requests are marked as {{added}}
/{{removed}}
or {{declined}}
, and are generally archived quickly. Additions and removals are logged · current log 2024/07.

Proposed additions[edit]
This section is for proposing that a website be blacklisted; add new entries at the bottom of the section, using the basic URL so that there is no link (example.com, not http://www.example.com). Provide links demonstrating widespread spamming by multiple users on multiple wikis. Completed requests will be marked as {{added}} or {{declined}} and archived. |

- This is immoral. Except for a single user ref spamming it, there was nothing wrong with the website. Where can I request whitelisting? Kailash29792 (talk) 00:58, 2 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Kailash29792: Calling something immoral is a big call, and I would ask for you to engage in helpful debate rather than name-calling. I think that what you are saying that you disagree with the nomination and the premise of the addition to the spam blacklist. @SHB2000: From a quick review, I think that the listing would be seen as being contrary to the guidance and practice that we have undertaken at meta. From the criteria given at the head of the page I do not see that there is a number of wikis that have blacklisted it. I do not see that these are all by the same person, and I do not see that they are all recent. If anything I would say that if there was any determination it would have been to suggest that local blacklisting should have been pursued if the domain usage is considered problematic. I would recommend reversing the action, and making that sort of guidance in this case. — billinghurst sDrewth 11:44, 2 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Billinghurst: Feel free to reverse at your will. --SHB2000 (t • c) 11:48, 2 July 2024 (UTC)
- @SHB2000: Cannot say that I am happy with that response. This is an issue from your decision, and an addition that should have been either declined, or more support requested as it does not clearly meet our blacklisting criteria. The preference is more conservative decision-making, rather than more radical, in the use of the blacklist. If you are uncertain, then seek opinion from your colleagues here. — billinghurst sDrewth 08:31, 3 July 2024 (UTC)

- Comment removal action below. @AntanO: Defer to w:ta:Mediawiki talk:spam-blacklist as it should be a local community decision when there is not multiple wikis blacklisting this domain. See criteria in header. — billinghurst sDrewth 08:36, 3 July 2024 (UTC)
- The site is not reliable source. It seems it picks information from other sources and I don't see any notable work. In ta.wiki (as well as in en.wiki) some users only keep on using this website as reference. Why some users were keen on adding this website as reference since there are better news sources in India? AntanO 18:41, 3 July 2024 (UTC)
- An example: In the article 'Muttrupulliyaa', someone added two links from this site and it adding not per en.wiki external link guideline. --AntanO 18:50, 3 July 2024 (UTC)
- @AntanO: I am not contesting those conclusions, nor the right to bring your request here.
- reliable source determinations are the job of the wikipedias, not meta.
- there may be legitimate uses at other sister wikis, we don't exist solely for the sake of the WPs.
- we can blacklist here though that is based on a clear consensus of the wikis.
- Consensus can be by the rules that exist above (prior consensus), explicit consensus where a discussion here gives authority, or a more implicit consensus where numbers of wikis blacklist it already demonstrating the problematic nature, and a level of discussion here. In this case, none of those were achieved. — billinghurst sDrewth 22:09, 3 July 2024 (UTC)
