Wiki Movimento Brasil at Tech Week: 'Human and Artificial Intelligences'

On May 13th and 15th, Alexander Hilsenbeck, Education and Scientific Dissemination Manager at Wiki Movimento Brasil, and Miréia Figueiredo, a volunteer member of WMB, conducted an Editing Workshop – Wikipedia. The workshop aimed to promote digital literacy and the dissemination of Brazilian scientific production on a global platform. It covered general aspects of the Wikipedia platform, its potential, and quality criteria, as well as providing an in-depth understanding of the Wikimedia universe. The workshop also discussed topics such as the importance and impact of Wikipedia and Wikimedia projects as Open Educational Resources, collaborative work, the search for reliable sources, copyright, and how to collaborate in the dissemination of free and open knowledge by integrating into a global community. Additionally, students created, translated, and improved articles related to technology in the practical part of the workshop.

On May 16th, Amanda Jurno, a member of Wiki Movimento Brasil, delivered a lecture titled "Wikipedia and Social and Technological Transformations", which addressed the construction of knowledge, the possibilities within the Wikimedia ecosystem, and the importance of people and their knowledge in the context of Artificial Intelligence.

Tech Week brought together professionals from various fields, such as Technology, Games, Architecture, and Design, who shared their experiences and projects. The event aimed to provide experiences and references to participants, encouraging the creation of repertoire and new ideas.

Wiki Movimento Brasils participation in Tech Week reinforces the organization's commitment to education and scientific dissemination, highlighting the importance of free and accessible knowledge for all.

In this edition, Alexander Hilsenbeck Filho, the communication and scientific dissemination manager at Wiki Movimento Brasil, presented how the organization has expanded its work in the field of education in recent years. He highlighted recent WMB initiatives, such as the WikiConecta project, an online and asynchronous course for educators using Wiki tools in education, especially in digital extension activities. This is in compliance with the Ministry of Education's determination to incorporate extension activities into all undergraduate courses in the country. Additionally, the first stage of research that WMB has developed into the current difficulties and potential of Wikiversity being used more effectively as a connectivist platform to house scientific research groups in Brazil was also presented. This enables the construction of a community of researchers and strengthens open science. The study "An Introduction to the use and needs of Research Groups with WikiEducation tools at Wikiversity" can be accessed here.

The webinar also featured Bukola James from EduWiki Nigeria, who discussed the development of the Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom program in Nigeria. Luisina Ferrante of Wikimedia Argentina, known for her pioneering education within the Wikimedia community, and Nebojša Ratković of Wikimedia Serbia, who leads one of the first Wikimedia organizations to formally launch an education program on Wikipedia, also shared their experiences. The Wiki Education Speaker Series webinar enabled the exchange of experiences from successful Wiki-Education projects in different contexts and locations, as well as perspectives on the challenges for the growth of an educational community based on free and open knowledge. Wiki Movimento Brasil's participation in this event highlights its ongoing commitment to promoting education and scientific dissemination, reinforcing the importance of collaborative and global projects for the advancement of free knowledge.

The Wiki Movement Brazil is celebrating in May another partnership with a Brazilian university to promote wiki-education

Wiki Movement Brazil has been instrumental in forming strategic partnerships in the field of wiki-education. Their goal is to create a network of educators who are committed to integrating Wikimedia projects into academic programs. Recently, they partnered with the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, headed by Professor Tatiana Martins.

The project "Genealogies of the Contemporary: Writings from the History of Art" aims to map recent artistic production, particularly in Brazil, and its connection to important contemporary issues. This mapping seeks to identify and reorganize the effects of historical processes driven by violence and trauma, which shape and reposition individuals in the face of events and within discourses. The project focuses on artistic practices that involve different subjective dispositions, aiming to access the contemporary art scene.

The expansion of the theoretical and practical aspects that structure contemporary visual arts is closely linked to issues of gender, race, and class, adding a political dimension to modes of existence. The project first addresses feminisms, examining the production and circulation of visual arts within hegemonic power and expression processes. It also aims to identify historical oversights and limited participation. By highlighting the neglect of female artists' work and the dominance of knowledge centered on records of male artists produced by men, the project seeks to address the gaps in art history.
