Integration of schools was achieved 70 years ago following the landmark ruling in Brown v Board.

Seventy years ago, the U.S. Supreme Court declared in Brown v. Board of Education that segregating schools by race was unconstitutional. Despite this landmark decision, American schools have been re-segregating, with 4 out of 10 Black and Hispanic students attending schools where most classmates are also students of color. High poverty is linked to intense racial segregation in schools. Efforts to integrate schools have stalled due to court rulings. The dream of Brown was about equality and opportunity, not just diversity. Solutions to segregated schools involve bridging funding and integration. The work towards achieving Brown’s vision of equality continues.
