Controlled demolition of Baltimore bridge results in explosion

The collapsed Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore was deliberately destroyed, allowing for the restoration of shipping in a busy US sea route. A cargo ship struck the bridge, causing it to collapse and killing six construction workers. The demolition operation was delayed due to bad weather but ultimately went according to plan. The ship, Dali, remains at the scene covered in scrap metal. Authorities hope to free the ship and reopen the Port of Baltimore soon. The rebuilding of the bridge may take over four years and cost up to $1.9bn. Investigations into the collapse are ongoing.
