Air Force instructor tragically killed in ejection seat incident on grounded plane

An Air Force instructor pilot, Capt. John Robertson, died after the ejection seat of the T-6A Texan II plane he was in activated on the ground at Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas. The accident occurred during “ground operations,” with no other injuries reported. The base formed an interim safety board investigation and plans for a full Air Force Safety Investigation Board. Robertson’s family was able to be by his side when he died, thanks to the medical efforts of staff members. Sheppard Air Force Base is a training installation offering technical and flying training. The T-6A Texan II is used for basic flying instruction and ejection seats are meant for safety in emergencies.
