We are looking for a world class optics manufacturing engineer to join a team that is making a big difference in the future of Apple. The team features a broad engineering roster including optical engineers, human perception experts, product design engineers, and experimental physicists, which presents a unique opportunity to influence and learn from a diverse group of experts. This position requires close collaboration with other experts at Apple and is focused on working directly with optical engineers, lens module owners and lens vendors to develop high precision injection molded optics.

Description

- Influence product-level decisions by applying simulation, prototyping and molding principle expertise of optics - Generate polymer flow models to guide lens design decisions for manufacturability - Support optics architecture validation by leading mold design, part design and prototyping discussions - Work with optics manufacturing suppliers to develop new manufacturing techniques for optical components and overcome existing bottlenecks - Use tools such as JMP, Moldflow, NX and presentation software such Keynote to prepare slides supporting technical objectives

Minimum Qualifications

  • 6 years of relevant industry experience
  • M.S. degree in Plastics Engineering, Material Science, Mechanical Engineering, or Opto-Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience with injection molding processes for high-precision applications such as optics
  • Familiarity with injection molded optics part and tool design
  • Capable of prototyping and leading design for manufacturability discussions

Key Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD degree in Plastics Engineering, Material Science, Mechanical Engineering, or Opto-Mechanical Engineering
  • 4+ years of industry experience, preferably in optics manufacturing
  • Basic knowledge in diamond turning and lens surface profile compensation
  • Opto-mechanical tolerance and lens module assembly experience
