#WorldRedCrossDay 2024 | "5.8 Charity Day" Online Crowdfunding Platform is Launched!】       World Red Cross Day is approaching! We're excited to announce the launch of our brand-new "5.8 Charity Day" online crowdfunding platform! The integrated platform introduces over 20 of Hong Kong Red Cross’s humanitarian services. We hope that through this platform, we can share some extraordinary stories, promote the spirit of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, and invite the community to donate and support. You are welcome to join and support the services with a matching donation to amplify the power of love further. The services and projects range from Emergency Relief, Disaster Preparedness to Community Health and Youth Education. For example, Local Emergency Relief service, Youth Mental Health and Emotional Support Service, Home-based Chronic Disease Management service.    Ah Yung (anonym) aged 85, and Ah Fun (anonym) aged 77, were both suffering from a myriad of health issues such as diabetes and hypertension. In addition to offering round-the clock care for Ah Yung, Ah Fun is also responsible for overseeing household affairs. The daily workload and personal health issues made Ar Fun feel depressed and exhausted both physically and mentally.       "I'm aging too and realize my time to care for him is limited. Every time I forget something, or can’t do things like I used to, I get angry with myself. I'm always racing against time when out, fearful for his well-being. His worsening condition brings bouts of anger and neglect. I struggle with my emotions. I can only keep these emotions to myself… Yet I’ve committed to growing old with him and will steadfastly continue to care for him." Ah Fun said.     Hong Kong Red Cross "Home-based Chronic Disease Management Service" helps lighten Ah Fun’s emotional load. Through regular home visits, health education and active listening, our case manager and volunteers showed companionship and love to the couple. Caring for the elderly is non-negotiable. It can’t pause, not even for a second.      Like and share this post if you find it meaningful👍Check out more about other inspiring stories and the platform at https://lnkd.in/gzaVuBCg or donate via WhatsApp at https://lnkd.in/g_Ke26hz      #HongKongRedCross#WorldRedCrossDay2024 #everyonematters #wecarealwaysthere   #58CharityDay #Crowdfunding#HumanitarianService

【Release of #PublicResilienceSurvey2023 Result】Hong Kong Red Cross successfully interviewed 1,208 citizens in Hong Kong in September and October 2023 to assess their ability in responding to disasters.    The survey found that:   📌 1/3 of respondents considered Hong Kong as having a high disaster risk over the next 5 years.  📌 There was a low level of disaster readiness among respondents, with only 22% considering their households have prepared or begun preparing for disasters or emergencies.   📌 The respondents were also becoming less confident in coping with disasters compared to 2021.    𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗛𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗥𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 On an individual level, we recommend strengthening disaster readiness and confidence in coping with disasters by becoming familiar with community evacuation plans and regularly participating in emergency drills and relevant trainings. It is also important to care for the high-risk groups and learn more about the government services and NGOs in the community to face emergencies and crises together! 🤝    We also recommend organizations to develop emergency response plans, provide employees with disaster preparedness training, conduct regular emergency drills, and handle work arrangements during emergencies with compassion. When needed, emergency supplies can also be provided to support community disaster preparedness.    Click here to access the full "Public Resilience Survey 2023" report: https://lnkd.in/dUrSWesU   #HongKongRedCross #PublicResilienceSurvey #PublicResilienceSurvey2023 #EmergencyKit #EmergencyPlan #EveryoneHasARoleInDisasterPreparedness

We are glad to have Mr. Najum Iqbal, Head of Communications for East Asia at International Committee of the Red Cross - ICRC recently, visiting the Humanitarian Education Centre in our Headquarters. We introduced our "Light the Darkness" Red Cross Library, Experiential Simulation Programme - "WARZONE 90" and "Climate Conflict", and how these channels help public to build up humanitarian perspectives, instill a sense of humanitarian care and take humanity into action.    The visit was followed by a sharing session where we exchange different communication initiatives. Effective communication is fundamental to the success of advocating messages and building brand reputation. We will continue to apply strategic communication to disseminate humanitarian values among the public.    #HongKongRedCross   #ICRC   #Humanitarian
