The Global Network Initiative (GNI) is thrilled to announce that independent expert Anupam Chander has joined GNI’s academic constituency as member.

Anupam Chander is Scott K. Ginsburg Professor of Law and Technology at Georgetown University, a non-resident fellow at Yale’s Information Society Project, and a member of the American Law Institute. In 2023-24, he was a Visiting Scholar at the Institute for Rebooting Social Media at Harvard University and Cheng Yu Tung Visiting Professor at the University of Hong Kong.

“I’m delighted to support the Global Network Initiative’s efforts to promote human rights and accountability in the governance of our digital ecosystem,” says Chander. “We increasingly rely on technology companies to assist us at work and at home, and that reliance must not be betrayed by either profiteering or manipulation. The GNI’s collaborative approach is an essential part of building systems that improve our lives.”

Anupam is also the author of The Electronic Silk Road, published by Yale University Press and co-editor of Data Sovereignty: From the Digital Silk Road to the Return of the State published by Oxford University Press.

“Prof. Chander’s incredible academic work at the intersection of technology, human rights, and jurisdictional limits has long informed and inspired GNI’s and our members’ work. I am so pleased that he has joined GNI and look forward to deepening our engagement with him,” remarked GNI’s Executive Director Jason Pielemeier.
