Thomas Saloumi from Australia joined his teammates from Vietnam Swans, an Australian Football League sports team in Vietnam, to spend a meaningful day volunteering at an orphanage in Vũng Tàu, a city southeast of Ho Chi Minh City. Thomas immersed himself in various activities. He played Australian football with the children and donated various items including footballs, toys, treats and essential stationery supplies. The volunteers also provided a new power generator to enhance the orphanage's infrastructure. Reflecting on the experience, Thomas shared: “As we spent time with the children, playing games and sharing stories, we were reminded of the resilience and innocence that define childhood. From the youngest baby, just two weeks old, to the oldest, just under 18, each child left an unforgettable mark on our hearts. In the embrace of Vũng Tàu's tranquil landscape, we found purpose and fulfillment in giving back to those in need. Our day may have ended, but the memories we created and the bonds we shaped will endure – a testament to the power of compassion and community.” We congratulate Thomas on his remarkable philanthropic effort! The Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) is a European Union regulation. It is designed to step up industrial decarbonization by setting a fair price on emitted carbon during the production of carbon intensive goods. It ensures that the carbon price of imports is equivalent to that of domestic production. The CBAM also creates an incentive for cleaner industry worldwide. Currently, the CBAM is in a transitional phase since October 1, 2023, which coincides with the phase-out of the allocation of free allowances under the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS). Once the permanent system is in force on January 1, 2026, the CBAM will initially apply to goods and selected precursors whose production is carbon intensive, such as cement, iron and steel, aluminum, fertilizers, electricity and hydrogen. Bureau Veritas is committed to assisting businesses in preparing for the implementation of CBAM. Our comprehensive services, including measurement of carbon footprints and embedded emissions and certification and verification for reporting, enable organizations to navigate this new regulation. 🍊 Every orange matters! Mark Stone, Paul Gibbs and Nikay Grant from Bureau Veritas UK rolled up their sleeves to volunteer at The Felix Project in Deptford. They spent eighteen hours sorting, organizing and packaging rescued food from various suppliers. Together, they managed to load and prepare an impressive 56 crates of oranges! Beyond the numbers, this experience was about strengthening bonds as colleagues and gaining a deeper understanding of the impact of food waste and the importance of community support. The Felix Project is on a mission to rescue surplus food from the food industry and prevent it from going to waste. It collects food from over 500 suppliers, including supermarkets, wholesalers, farms and restaurants, and delivers it to almost 1000 charities and primary schools in London.
