The A697 is a short cut for those travelling up the A1 road to Scotland, saving you time and money. It goes from Morpeth on the A1 road to Edinburgh through some beautiful country side views. It is around 15 miles shorter and an average time of 23 minutes quicker than traveling up the A1 road(figures from, RAC Route planner).
