I think there's a certain type of person for whom gender essentialism is just totally inherent to their worldview, to such a degree that it cannot include the existence of, literally, non-binary people-- those who do not fit within the binary. But their principles preclude them from being actively exclusionist about it, they understand it's a cunt move to actively deny someone their gender expression, they can't go so far as to claim nonbinary folk do not exist. So rather than accept that gender is deeply personal, defies categorisation, and expresses a unique relationship each person has with the world and with their identity, they instead create two new categories of boy nonbinaries and girl nonbinaries that can be slotted seamlessly into the existing worldview.
