Piezo technology is at the heart of many essential medical instruments such as endoscopes. With their compact size, endoscopes are increasingly being used in medicine not only for diagnosis, but also for therapy. Modern scanning fiber endoscopes (SFE), for example, generate laser-based, full-color images with higher resolution and an enlarged field of view. These SFEs use miniaturized piezo tubes with fast deflection and control to generate the scanning motions of optical fibers. Thanks to piezo technology, SFEs provide more image information and new insights in biomedical research and improve minimally invasive procedures in everyday clinical practice. 📌  https://lnkd.in/e24V5QJa  #medtech #endoscopes #piezo 

The European Society for Precision Engineering and Nanotechnology (euspen) will meet in Dublin next week! We are happy to join this year’s Official euspen conference and invite you to attend our talk on June 11 by Dr.-Ing. Tillmann Volz. He will present a technology demonstrator of our lever-actuated direct drive hexapods, which will offer superior performance in terms of reliability and dynamics compared to available compact spindle-driven hexapods: a system in which the rotational motion of a motor shaft is directly translated into a circular footpoint motion of six constant length struts with five degrees of freedom using a lever arm attached to the shaft. It’s International Light Day 💡 and together with the European Light Microscopy Initiative, we’d like to take this opportunity to highlight the importance of light microscopy – a technology which enables researchers to continuously expand our knowledge about life and diseases. In fact, the theoretical background of microscopy goes back to Johannes Kepler and Galileo Galilei. Today, scientists are able to examine living organisms over a longer period of time (3D in vivo imaging) with low phototoxicity and fast image acquisition, for example using Light Sheet Fluorescence Microscopy (LSFM) – a technique supported by PI’s compact linear stages and our ultrasonic piezo-motor-driven rotation stages. PI contributes to 1.4 nm semiconductor technology node: A new EU-funded development project for the next semiconductor technology node, called 14ACMOS, is expected to enable the production of chip structures with dimensions down to 14 angstroms / 1.4 nm. The current state of the art is microchips with 3 nm technology. The project brings together the know-how of leading suppliers to the semiconductor industry, and we are happy to participate by developing ultra-high precision nanopositioning systems with accuracies better than one millionth of a millimeter. 📌 https://lnkd.in/dxWWa76R #semiconductor #microchips
