What should I do about the Passenger's Airbag Inflator Recall?
Answer
You may have received a recall notice for your front passenger’s airbag inflator. This recall is urgent and the repair should be done immediately. You can contact your local Honda dealership to schedule an appointment for the repair. Honda recommends that you do this as soon as possible and avoid having passengers in the front passenger seat until the recall repair is done.
The airbag inflator contains a propellant that rapidly generates the gas that inflates the airbag cushion in a sufficient crash. In certain vehicles, the front passenger airbag inflator could produce excessive internal pressure during an airbag deployment. If an affected airbag deploys, the increased internal pressure may cause the inflator casing to rupture. Metal fragments could be propelled upward toward the windshield, or downward toward the front passenger’s foot well, possibly causing an injury to vehicle occupants.
Approximately 11.9 million Honda and Acura vehicles are affected by the driver’s and passenger’s airbag inflator recalls. Honda is taking every effort to keep customers informed about this recall, including mailers, phone calls, e-mails, text messages, advertising, and door-to-door canvassing. We are here to support you in getting this recall repair completed right away.
