“It is estimated that 70-80% of disabilities are invisible” This is the patch I’ve had on my backpack for the past two years. When I use my Nordic walking poles as my mobility aids I “don’t look disabled”. Have a think of what disabled “looks like” if 70-80% of disabled people have invisible disabilities. We can look like anyone. Because anyone can become disabled at anytime - and still not “look disabled”. Even when using my rental wheelchair last year I got the “you don’t look disabled” comments. There is a highlight though. A wonderful conversation with a man in line behind me a coffee shop. I’d grabbed a stool to sit on in line. We got talking, and he said my backpack patch made him think. Can’t wait for my custom titanium wheelchair to arrive in July/August. Then I can just roll quickly away from icky comments. Quote and stats from: https://lnkd.in/gjfykhwC.
