At Staples, we believe that diversity is our strength. As we celebrate Pride Month, we stand together with the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, recognizing their resilience, courage, and contributions. The journey towards equality is ongoing; members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community continuing to show incredible resilience in the face of discrimination and barriers, while advocating for change and creating safe spaces for all. We stand together to acknowledge these challenges while celebrating their victories.  For Pride this year, we’re focusing on celebrating inclusivity for the whole community. We want to help educate our associates and expand our knowledge about all members that make up this vibrant community. In addition to a host of internal events, our Pride@Staples Business Resource Group (BRG) has created a guide to help associates participate in Pride events throughout this country this summer. From educational events to social gatherings, there’s something for everyone.  Stay tuned for more Pride content throughout the month. Let’s continue to learn, grow, and celebrate together. Happy Pride!

Did you know that approximately 1 in 5 children and youth in Ontario has a mental health challenge? That’s why our team at Staples is gearing up for Mental Health in Motion, York Region’s largest fundraiser for #YouthMentalHealth. Your participation in this event directly contributes to enhancing youth mental health services in our community. Since 2015, CMHA YRSS has been on the front lines tackling the loss of young lives to mental illness, addiction, and suicide. Join us in Markham on June 9th in making a positive impact on the mental health journey of our youth. Lace up, gear up, and let's move for mental health! You can choose to participate in a 60 km Bike Ride, 20 km Bike Ride or a 5 km Run/Walk. Whether you're into running, walking, or cycling, we've crafted routes and options suitable for all skill levels and ages. All proceeds go towards CMHA’s Mobile Youth Walk-in Clinic, which provides a safe space for youth to talk to a medical or mental health professional. Please help us support CMHA York and South Simcoe by making a contribution to our team and sharing this page with your family and friends. Every dollar we raise will advance CMHA York and South Simcoe's great cause. Together, we can make a difference: https://lnkd.in/gsCiMiUg

This week, our associates came together with our sustainability partner Tree Canada / Arbres Canada and the students and staff at Durham Alternative Secondary School to celebrate the kick-off of our 2024 school community grant program!   We’re proud to be working together in partnership with Tree Canada to green the outdoor spaces of schools across the country and helping to create a more sustainable future possible. Thank you to Vice Principal Andrew Lue and the DASS school community for hosting the Staples #OneTeam volunteers, as well as Ojibwe artist Patrick Hunter who will be creating artwork for this new outdoor space.   As The Working and Learning Company, we’re committed to helping students and educators thrive, and that means supporting the creation of greener, more sustainable environments for all!

Equity is a key part of our CSR engagement as a company and it's why we launched our Even the Odds partnership with MAP Centre for Urban Health Solutions, a world-leading research centre based at St. Michael’s hospital, focused on addressing issues such as homelessness, unequal access to health care and medicine, and the lifelong effects of childhood poverty. Even the Odds was launched to help raise awareness of inequity in Canada, and, thanks to the support of our customers, associates, and vendor-partners, as well as our annual corporate match donation, we have raised over $5 million dollars since the program’s launch. Even the Odds is making a meaningful impact by funding both research and real solutions in communities throughout Canada. Watch here to learn more from Dr. Stephen Hwang, Internal Medicine Physician and Director of MAP, about this important work made possible by Even the Odds in communities across the country. #EvenTheOdds #ONETEAM

In late April, we participated in Monday Girl’s annual Summit in downtown Toronto. We connected with so many incredible members through our booth on the products and services we offer professionals and entrepreneurs, and hosted a #StaplesSpotlight Watercolour Masterclass with influencer Lauren Pearson and STAEDTLER. During the workshop, Lauren taught guests how to unleash their artistic side with unique painting techniques using Staedtler watercolour pens. It was a packed room full of networking and creativity, and everyone walked away with a swag bag full of Staedtler products to take home. As the year goes on, we look forward to our continued partnership with Monday Girl through meetups and events being hosted all across Canada to help inspire members to #WorkLearnGrow in their respective professional journeys. Stay tuned to learn more!

We are proud to announce our largest fundraising campaign to date to 'Close the Gap' on inequity in Canada. This campaign marks the fourth year of our partnership with MAP Centre for Urban Health Solutions to help #EventheOdds and aims to raise awareness for the need to end health inequities and close Canada’s health gap. All proceeds support vital programming for equity-deserving communities across Canada, working to end chronic homelessness, creating a healthy start for kids, and removing barriers to access for care and disease prevention. Since its launch in 2021, the Even the Odds partnership has raised more than $5 million – surpassing its campaign goal thanks to the support of Staples’ customers, associates, vendor-partners, and corporate match donations. With this funding, we have expanded equity-building initiatives throughout Canada to create meaningful and lasting impact in underserved communities. Until May 26, Staples customers can donate to Even the Odds at any one of our 300+ stores or online at Staples.ca/EvenTheOdds. We will match all donations up to $500,000 in support of MAP. Donations will help fund the life-saving research and solutions that MAP and its network of scientists are doing to help build more equitable communities.
