Manufacturing is being disrupted. The transformation of the sector to support sustainable and digitalized operations is underway, and there are great opportunities for Canadian manufacturers to lead and grow. One of the key challenges is to make sure that the existing workforce has the skills they need to support our growth and that our colleges and universities understand the skills advanced manufacturing needs so that the new workers coming in the sector are ready, but exactly what are the skills that are needed? As a part of NGen's Future Ready project, a program funded in part by the government of Canada under the SWSP program, NGen, in partnership with Automotive Parts Manufacturers' Association (APMA) SIMSA - Saskatchewan Industrial and Mining Suppliers Association, Downsview Aerospace Innovation & Research (DAIR), Canadian Marine Industry and Shipbuilding Association, BioTalent Canada and Food Processing Skills Canada reached out to survey Canadian manufacturers about the competencies of their existing workforce as well as the skills they anticipate will be required in 2030 and 2040.
