CCI's President Benjamin Bergen, Federal Director Nicholas Schiavo, and Policy Director Laurent Carbonneau will also be attending this important launch of Ottawa Inc., the newest branch of the Innovator Network of Canada (Inc.), an ecosystem-led initiative powered by CCI to help local leaders lead important conversations about the economic futures of their communities.

“There should be a tax incentive to 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩 startups find PMF.” 🇨🇦 Tonight I’m speaking at the inaugural Innovator Network of Canada (Inc.) townhall. Our agenda: - Innovation in Canada - Why startups fail - Getting Canada’s tech ecosystem back on track - Prosperity for the nation Things like the new Capital Gains Tax blocks innovation. It affects startups like mine and it makes keeping talent & global champions in Canada much more difficult in the long run. Join me and a panel of hosts tonight for a no-nonsense town hall on how to keep Ottawa’s #startupeconomy strong, and solidify our position as a global #techhub 🗓️ Date: Tuesday, June 6 at 5:00 PM 📍 Location: The Collaboration Centre, 150 Elgin St, Downtown Ottawa 🎟 See Inc. website for tickets Panelists: Pierce Ujjainwalla | Margo Crawford, MBA, ICD.D | Thomas Park | Laura Dhillon Kane | Benjamin Bergen I’m excited to share the room with such great minds. There’s a lot of good that can come from an event like this. See you there! #Canada #CapitalGainsTax #CanadaTech

We had an excellent visit to Halifax, talking to founders, investors and leaders in the Atlantic Canada innovation economy. Canadian innovators and economic leaders are deeply worried about our national productivity metrics, our ability to commercialize technology and our global competitiveness. Great to see John Stackhouse, Ray Rashed, and great to organize the first Halifax Inc. event of the Innovator Network of Canada (Inc.) with Sebastian Green! We've got a lot of work to do to get Canada's economy back on track, but there are great entrepreneurs in Atlantic Canada who are driving growth despite the obstacles. We'll be back soon!

The bottom line is that the federal government needs to have a strategy for supporting clean technology in Canada. In response to the auditor general's report into SDTC delivered today, CCI Director of Federal Affairs Nicholas Schiavo issued a statement on behalf of our members. https://lnkd.in/ee_bTHiN

It was my pleasure to speak with BetaKit about ongoing delays in implementing a better payment system here in Canada. Fintech companies are ready; it's way past time for the federal government to launch the Real-Time Rail. https://lnkd.in/gg_utSFM

Wrapped up #Inventures2024 with a quick jaunt to Banff to learn more about The51’s Food and AgTech fund. Hosted by the inimitable Alison Sunstrum, who knows a thing or two about driving profits across the ag supply chain, it was a great opportunity to connect with folks (mainly incredible women entrepreneurs) who intrinsically understand that AgTech builds thriving populations and national economies Great to hear from luminaries Justine Hendricks, Elizabeth Cannon, Mark Miller, Colin South and Laura Kilcrease on subjects from talent to effective tech procurement! Thanks to Alberta Innovates, The51 and Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP for hosting. (It was also incredible to be in a room where a solid 75% of attendees were Saskatchewan-born or raised. Prairie people really are the best people. 🌾) Michael Grantmyre, Danielle Brewin Graham, Heather Stephens, CPA, CA, Kebbie Brown Council of Canadian Innovators | Conseil canadien des innovateurs
