About us

We're a proud West Australian company, recognised for our culture, Values, innovation and industry leading development of infrastructure and mining assets. As one of the world’s lowest cost iron ore producers, Fortescue is now shipping at an annual rate of over 180 million tonnes with more than 1.7 billion tonnes of iron ore delivered to our customers since 2008. As part of our plan to decarbonise our Australian mining operations by 2030, our aerodrome at Cloudbreak (Fortescue Dave Forrest Airport) is now the FIRST in Australia to have a fully operational, solar-powered airfield lighting system. 💡 The conversion of the airfield lights to solar will reduce power generation and diesel usage on site by 20%. Plus, it makes on-site work safer for our employees by significantly reducing exposure to high voltage electrical cables. Airfield lighting at our other WA operational aerodromes will be progressively converted to solar over the next three years.

Our Biodiversity Strategy is our roadmap to this goal by 2030, focusing on integrating biodiversity in design, protecting and enhancing ecosystems, generating knowledge, and prioritising restoration. Our goal is to lead in biodiversity management, drive innovation, and apply science-based solutions. By partnering with government regulators, as well as First Nations and community groups, we're working towards a net positive impact by 2030. Last week, Gladstone hosted the Horizon Hydrogen Grand Prix, bringing together over 150 students from across Central Queensland. The Grand Prix celebrates the culmination of a six-month-long school-based STEM education program delivered by Horizon Educational and CQUniversity, with teams sponsored by industry partners. The program encourages Students to collaborate with industry mentors to design, engineer and construct their very own 1:10 scale hydrogen powered cars, putting their cars to the test in a four-hour endurance race. Fortescue was the proud sponsor of Toolooa State High School – ‘Fortescue Mavericks’ for the second year, with the team of six this year achieving the ‘Team Spirit’ award.

Driving innovation in big industry tech. This week in Perth, WA, our hydrogen-powered T 264 haul truck prototype, developed in partnership with Liebherr Group, successfully drove using hydrogen for the first time. Europa features a 1.6MWh battery - developed by Fortescue WAE - and 500 kilowatts of fuel cells, storing over 380 kilograms of liquid hydrogen. Europa will head to site in the coming weeks for further site-based testing and commissioning, bringing us one step closer to having a fleet of zero emissions haul trucks at our sites by the end of this decade.
