Thought of the Day: In Pacific Rim, it’s implied by Newt’s second dumbest line in the film about dinosaurs that they may have been some form of primitive kaiju. (The Pacific Rim wiki says that the relationship or lack thereof between the kaiju and dinosaurs was left “deliberately vague.”)
Following this possibility to its logical conclusion, we must conclude that all birds on Earth may secretly be tiny kaiju.

lahore pigeons are some of the most visually appealing birds out there. like in terms of visual design. very minimalist, good contrast.
Too bad Lahore pigeons are a domestic breed and don’t appear in the wild at all.
Some equally balanced wild colorations include

@why-animals-do-the-thing what the heck?
This is priceless. Fur is a great nest-building material. Normally, birds get it from snags on branches or (maybe, I’m not sure) dead animals. I know some people who actually put out a bird-feeder full of hair for the birds after they brush out their dog, specifically so that it can be turned into nesting material.
This is a very brave birb who has learned where it comes from and just decided to go get some from the source, and a dog who is probably too asleep to care.
He bird is probably just getting the underfur that sheds and the stuff that would just end up in the brush anyways
That’s a collie- their superpower is shedding. You honestly really can’t keep one WITHOUT going to the groomers unless you want to spend your whole life brushing them, their undercoats literally fall away in chunks and then the undercoat gets stuck in the wiry long hairs and tangles and basically is the biggest pain in the ass ever
this bird is doing the dog a favor he can probably get his beak right in there to get at the undercoat
helpful birb
Nature’s personal groomer. Now if only I could find nature’s bartender, I’d be set.
@jackhawksmoor is right on all counts, that’s absolutely what that bird (a tufted titmouse, by the looks of it) is doing.
It’s baby bird season where I live so here’s a reminder: it’s okay to move a fledgling that’s outside of its nest if it’s in a dangerous place!
If the baby bird is a fledging (with feathers, but not able to fully fly) and is in a dangerous place it’s 100% okay to gently move the bird to a nearby safe place. I just moved a fledging robin from the sidewalk (dangerous because dogs and Brooklyn traffic) to underneath some boxwoods in front of my building (safe, not accessible by dogs, further from the street) and was dive-bombed by the parents in the process lmao. The parents WILL continue to care for the fledging while it’s on the ground, the whole “don’t touch a baby bird because it will smell like a human and the parents will abandon it” thing is a myth.
The Audubon Society has a good quick explainer on what to do if you find a nestling or fledgling:
